Socially awkward Jane Hayes is obsessed with the works of Jane Austen and fantasizes about the character of Mr. Darcy. She scrapes together as much money as she can and takes off for Austenland, a British theme resort where guests immerse themselves in a romantic fantasy worthy of Austen herself. However, because Jane's limited funds do not allow as many privileges as other guests, her chance at a fling with her very own Mr. Darcy may be limited as well.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Despite an intriguing premise and fine performances from a talented cast, Austenland succumbs to outworn romcom cliches and slapstick gags.

The series is one with an abundance of senses and sensibilities, but even the fiercest admirers of Jane Austen -- especially the fiercest admirers of Jane Austen -- will blanch at the extremes of Jane Hayes. Go to Full Review

With all the makings of a cult, this hit-and-miss hoot is as weird - and certainly much sillier than you'd expect - of a comedy produced by Stefanie 'Twilight' Meyer but directed/penned by the co-writer of Napoleon Dynamite. Go to Full Review

What might have made a five-minute skit becomes an extended exercise in taking a joke for a walk round a country house before allowing it to crap on the terrace and then stamping it to death on the manicured lawn. Go to Full Review

Unfortunately, Hess and company weren't nearly as interested in Austen as they were in a thousand other boring romantic comedies. Go to Full Review

If Austenland is supposed to criticize obsessive fandom, the ending makes no sense. If it isn't, the rest of the film makes no sense. And yet, the light, airy, innocent nature of it all is somehow pleasing enough Go to Full Review

Oct 9, 2018 I thought it was cute! Kinda shocked at the low rating. It's s cutesy romance not an oscar contender.
Anakin G Sep 13, 2018 I love this dumb movie. It's so fun. yeah, there's some cringe-making bits but it's really lovely. Russell and Feild are charming. If you want to laugh at yourself and your fantasies about romance, this is for you. See more
Leia W Jul 29, 2018 LIke i read before, this is a very cute chick flick. The kind of movie you can watch over and over, because it´s fun and simple. if you want deepness and a thick plot, go read a book, or watch a documentary. See more
Apr 19, 2018 This is one of the tightest, funniest, niche romantic comedies I have ever seen. It respects the book, and I think Jennifer Coolidge's performance was hilarious and even funnier than the written character. I notice a new thing every time I watch it, there are so many hidden jokes that need a second look. See more
Hagrid L Apr 12, 2018 Urgh. So much potential wasted. This is one of the most disappointing Austen-themed films I've seen yet.
