There is such a thing as under-acting to a point where you exude the charisma of a plant pot. The directing goes the same way, plodding along conscientiously but without any spark -- one can sense the cameras splintering out of sheer boredom. Go to Full Review

Washington makes his directorial debut with Antwone Fisher, a fact-based biography that deftly pulls the heartstrings. Granted, it covers no new ground that other psychiatrist/patient films haven't gone before. Go to Full Review

A number of American films in recent years have essentially argued not merely for an individual solution to a patently social problem, but that one must make one's way and leave the others ... behind and the existing order unchallenged. Go to Full Review

Finn M Apr 6, 2019 It's a well constructed and thought out film that as somebody who's adopted doesn't work for me. Not in the least, I like happy endings as much as the next guy, but his story in the third act isn't plausible and I'd wager there was much poetic license used by writer and titular character Antwone Fisher. Final Score: 5.8/10 See more
Jan 26, 2019 The best inspiring movie ever made!
Leia S Jan 24, 2018 I am sorry to say that, being a true story and all that.... but I found it unbearable! Very dull. It's like a single note played over and over again: won't have a song even if Denzel Washington try to sing on it. He's good, but no one is that good. And then, very slowly, comes the end of the film, and it's worse: it's cheesy. See more
Han M Dec 10, 2017 Antwone Fisher is a tragic movie that brings mournful moments into everyday homes. In the beginning of the movie, Antwone was suppressed and frustrated. Things that he'd encountered in his past had caused a lot of anger, but as the movie progresses he opens up about his feelings and his frustrations slowly ease away. In the movie he writes a poem that shows a very deep and emotional side to him. Not many actors can play such a believing role. Derek Luke (Antwone Fisher) made me relate to his story and feel his pain. An example of this is when he opened up to the psychiatrist and finally told his story while he was incarcerated. The way his lips quivered, his eyes watered, and how he tried so hard to fight back his tears when he would tell an emotional part made the 2 movie that much more believable. While watching this movie I felt every tear as if it dropped from my own eye. The storyline was tragic and the acting took it to another level. Antwone Fisher is an iconic movie because of the depth, emotion, and growth in which the foundation of interest was set upon. See more
Luke S May 1, 2017 Solid movie, can't believe I waited until 2017 to see. Being based on true story always makes me wonder how accurate it was. Very good acting and never a moment when you wanted to tune it out, kept you watching. Highly recommend. See more
