What to Know

Critics Consensus

Another Earth is often weighed down by placid pacing and ponderousness, but this soulful sci-fi nevertheless offers plenty of profound concepts to ponder.

Another Earth is quite a gem in a lot of ways, but wrapped in an enigma. It's a very sophisticated approach to a familiar theme. Go to Full Review

At its best, it is original and affecting, and one of the best American independent efforts at this year. Go to Full Review

… an adult drama with science-fiction trimmings, a mature consideration of grief and potential solace...Marling and McCahill deserve some credit for coming up with an original notion and taking it seriously enough to fill a feature… Go to Full Review

The film spoils a compelling idea by treating the subject like a hypothetical, instead of a device that brings the protagonist’s world crashing down. Go to Full Review

Kylo W Mar 8, 2019 Requires a hefty suspension of disbelief, but once you accept the premise it is actually a decent, artistic film. It's also very thought provoking. Who would you be if you had made a different choice at that critical point in your life? Would you be interested in meeting yourself? And if you came to have compassion for and love a person, do you love them enough to let them go? Watchable, if slightly forgettable. See more
Hagrid L Feb 16, 2019 deeply interesting film , particularly the ending. thank you for making it.
Rey G Jan 9, 2019 Another Earth boasts a number of striking images and plenty of ambitious ideas but it unfortunately gets distracted with a love story that is significantly less interesting than other elements of the film. See more
George R Sep 18, 2018 I really don't like this kind of shaky indi way of directing. I know you don't have much money, but please find a cameramen without Parkinson. And don't let me start on the cinematographer (if there was one). The story per se is not bad, but far away to be innovative. The end of the movie is like it is, and you will have to watch it to find it out. See more
Albus R Aug 12, 2018 A quiet movie that uses a background scifi concept to tell a story of loss, grief, redemption and the seeking of one's purpose. See more
Aug 10, 2018 It had the potential to be a great Sci-fi/Drama but it was only a love story.
