What to Know

Critics Consensus

Although its urgent subject matter warrants less a deliberate pace, The Andromeda Strain brings Michael Crichton's techno-thriller to the big screen with striking intelligence and an engrossing sense of paranoia.

…science wins out over entertainment in The Andromeda Strain, which keeps faith with credible scientific action at the expense of the disaster movie format which was just around the corner…probably plays better for scientists than anyone else…. Go to Full Review

Han W Mar 22, 2019 63%/72% review for Andromeda Strain, rotten tomatoes must be joking. This movie is a classic, not a blockbuster.
Finn R Mar 18, 2019 Buen comienzo, para luego llegar a ser aburrida y monotona.
Rey S Mar 5, 2019 A satellite crashes near a small Arizona town, bringing with it a deadly alien virus in this science fiction thriller based on Michael Crichton's novel. After the townspeople are wiped out by the contagion, a team of scientists bands together to eliminate the virus before it spreads nationwide. Academy Awards, USA 1972 Nominee , Best Art Direction-Set Decoration & Best Film Editing . THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN is very literal and talky. But that is part of the film's appeal I thought. Directed By: Robert Wise (and Crichton) concoct the most absorbing, riveting take on science fiction tempered with science fact. I thought the film was great if you like a slow burn story arch . Robert Wise' direction is superbly innovative, for its' time even. In addition, Douglas Trumbull's special effects warrants very special recognition, simply because his work was done entirely without the aid of advanced computer graphics(did not exist, in 1971). This is also the very first time I have ever seen computer touch-screen graphics demonstrated! I find this film 100% accurate- in terms of plot, story, technology and characters. The underlying theme of science fiction, meeting science fact- paints a very plausible occurrence in our foreseeable future(and NO- not a single animal was harmed during filming!) They killed a lot of lab rats. Slow and methodical entertainment that will get you worried about whether they'll be able to contain that strange blob of alien green crystal. "Andromeda Strain" stands mid-way between the "giant reptile/insect/dinosaur devours/crushes/devastates New York/London/Tokyo" sci-fi flicks of the 1950's and the trillion dollar epics of the 1990's where eye candy replaces any cerebral activity. Jan 26, 2019 The best thrilling sci-fi movie ever made! With the best movie score ever composed!
Albus S Aug 18, 2018 The film does not try terribly hard to be suspenseful - which, I have to say, I appreciate. No supercharged drama or overly-hightened action. Comes off almost like a dramatization of a real event, which from what i've read was intended See more
Rey G Apr 29, 2018 A brilliantly designed, intelligent film, but a flawed story saps a lot of the energy half-way through
