Filmmaker Terri Flores (Jennifer Lopez) is traveling deep in the Amazon jungle looking for a forgotten tribe. Terri and her crew, which includes an anthropologist (Eric Stoltz) and a cameraman (Ice Cube), come across Paul (Jon Voight), who is stranded on the riverbank. He offers to help them find the tribe, but his secretive behavior puts everyone on edge. They realize too late that he's using them to find a legendary anaconda that's worth a fortune -- if they can catch it.

Critics Consensus

Anaconda's pulpy pleasures are constricted by its own absurdity, but creature feature fans may enjoy its brazen silliness.

The computer-generated special effects are so-so; the characterisation is by-numbers; and, crucially, it's almost fright-free.

The challenge with poking fun at the original Anaconda -- even in the form of an affectionate, scare-quoted homage -- is that it’s already in on its own joke.

The monster looks like a maniacal garden hose in a couple of sequences. Still, it delivers the necessary thrills and chills.

While the acting is uneven, the special and practical effects are shaky, and the story is over the top, it still adds up to a timeless horror classic that is more fun than the most recent, verging on soulless reboot.

Anaconda is a stunning train wreck of a movie that fails at tension, logic, and even basic competence.

Anaconda brandishes its goofiness like a sword, ready to cut down any naysayer who dares utter a derogatory word. Certainly, the daftness is part of the film’s charm, but it can never rise much above the level of a disposable lark.

A horror film that doesn't have any horror. So much so, you will be laughing at how preposterous everything in this movie was. The acting was stiff and the characters are forgettable. The snake looks really fake, not one ounce of intimidation is seen. The action is over-exaggerated and the plot goes nowhere fast. You might like it for how stupid it is. But definitely not a good movie at all.

It is super cool and whatever but it still looks like a copy of the emblematic JAWS.

Some beautiful shots of the Amazon, with some good actors and scenes. I think people just did not like the idea of a large snake as a villain or something.

Tongue-in-cheek creature feature with an A-list cast doesn't quite do the trick, but is mildly enjoyable, mainly due to Jon Voight's smog over-the-top villain performance.

Anaconda packs plenty of regurgitating fun. You'll enjoy it if you're a monster movie lover. Giant snakes are fun to watch and this original giant snake doesn't look cheap.
