Set in 1973, it chronicles the funny and often poignant coming of age of 15-year-old William, an unabashed music fan who is inspired by the seminal bands of the time. When his love of music lands him an assignment from Rolling Stone Magazine to interview the up-and-coming band Stillwater -- fronted by lead guitar Russell Hammond and lead singer Jeff Bebe, William embarks on an eye-opening journey with the band's tour, despite the objections of his protective mother.

If you haven't already sold your soul to rock & roll, Almost Famous should seal the deal. It’s pure pleasure. Just don’t expect the dark side. Not since A Hard Day’s Night has a movie caught the thrumming exuberance of going where the music takes you.

I was turned on to this movie by a friend of mine and I'm glad I was. This could be described as phenomenal journey of a young kid in a world he may not be ready for. The acting is great and the whole environment does really well painting the time period it attempts to paint. The relationship between William and Russell is interesting and goes through much struggle only to succeed at the end. Penny's relationship with William is even more deeply thought out and somehow develops as not a romantic relationship but instead and almost familial type. My one issue that I have would be that the movie is too long; Luckily the movie even as it is too long, features several large scale events that keep the plot moving and the audience engaged.

Almost Famous is a beautifully original coming of age story that has a little bit of something for everyone. The performances are truly mesmerizing and I often found myself forgetting that I was watching a movie at all. Despite a few unrealistic moments throughout the film, Almost Famous is a highly recommended experience that I think music lovers and film lovers alike will deeply enjoy.

Very nostalgic for this 70's girl.who was from San Diego and went to a few rock concerts at the San Diego Sports arena. Favorite seen is Tiny Dancer! Even though the Eagles weren't portrayed in the movie, it was based on them and I was a big fan, saw them in SD!
