Disney comedy about a professor who invents a revolutionary flying rubber, which he dubs "flubber". Not only does the professor's Model T Ford fly through the air with the greatest of ease, but his secret weapon helps the college basketball team to victory, thanks to flubber-enhanced boots. While his long-suffering girlfriend tries to win the professor's heart, crooks are trying to steal his formula.

The combination of that schoolboy sense of fun, which is Disney's stock in trade, and a sharper sense of the ridiculous is happily demonstrated in The Absent-Minded Professor.

MacMurray is ideally cast as the car-hopping prof, and plays the role with warmth and gusto.

As much as I enjoy the hard-boiled serious MacMurray, I loves me the Disney MacMurray.

I was worried that The Absent-Minded Professor wouldn't hold up after all these years, but it's still fun to watch and it kept my kids entertained, as well. This is a silly, lighthearted film, which is exactly what it needed to be. Why hasn't real Flubber been invented yet? Come on, Science!
