If you operate under the belief that you can learn as much, maybe even more, from bad movies as you can from good ones, this one is a master class in what not to do. Go to Full Review
Noel Murray Los Angeles Times Dec 8, 2016
The inexplicability of "Abattoir" keeps it engaging for a while, but by the time it hits the one-hour mark without anything even remotely exciting happening, even a horror connoisseur's patience will run thin. Go to Full Review
John DeFore The Hollywood Reporter Dec 8, 2016
While Bousman's climax is a not terribly original effects-laden haunted house, the house's builder, and his motives, have enough of their own flavor to please a hardened horror fan. Go to Full Review

A disappointing exploration of a somewhat interesting concept, and considering the story is based on a comic book, some of the story’s effectiveness was lost in translation. Go to Full Review

Abattoir is a dark fairy tale feeling film that is slower and less flashy than what some may have come to expect from Darren Lynn Bousman but it's most definitely good. Go to Full Review

An intelligent and stylish macabre tale straight out of the world of Lovecraft or Poe, Abattoir will keep the grey matter working until the closing moments. Go to Full Review

Luke M Aug 5, 2018 The idea behind the movie was exciting, unfortunately the movie was not. With so many possible rooms to build a story around, only a few were seen. The fuzzy effects took away any fear factor and the character building was lacking so didn't really care about anyone. Shame really as I had high hopes. See more
Kylo S Feb 9, 2018 A reporter, Julia (Jessica Lowndes) had just discovered that her sister as well as her entire family had been savagely killed in her own home. And although the perpetrator had been caught she became curious in terms of the explanation and decides to wanting to return back to the scene of the crime, but yet she would then find out that the house had already been sold and that the room where her sister and her family were butchered was completely removed or completely cut out like it never existed. along with her ex-boyfriend, who happens to be a police officer, they would then go back to the town where she was originally came from with a connection between her sister's death and their biological mother. Theodore S Oct 23, 2017 So bad and there is no resolution to the "plot" one way or another. Waste of time.
Harry W Aug 11, 2017 Another time the reviews didn't get it right. Abattoir is a unique and genuinely interesting concept adapted into a decent film despite its flaws. The story is the most impressive part as I kept imagining what a fantastic video game it would make with its setting stuck in between old time and the present and the forest which was an amazing set with the rooms all around like nothing I'd seen before. The haunted house at the end was also a piece of work. I loved the cool CG effects on the ghosts and that unexpected ending was perfect. I don't think I've ever found myself in a position where I loved a film's concept so much but not its execution. I wish the director of The Conjuring got his hands on this one, it would've turned out amazing. See more
Draco P Aug 10, 2017 One of my favourite directors and he didn't let me down, everything i could expect from him, the story was easy to follow and there are parts of the film what are Cliché but then they explain it a line in the film 'I don't believe in coincidences' See more
Ron G Jun 2, 2017 I'm a big fan of Darren Lynn Bousman, absolutely. But he doesn't have a 100% track record, and Abattoir is not a favoured offering of his for me. There are so many great ideas scattered throughout Abattoir, but unfortunately it lacks a Jebediah Crane to bring them together into a single solid foundation. See more
