Anakin W Oct 29, 2017 A Perfect Ending has a peculiar aesthetic, playing with soft-focus, re-focus techniques, Lifetime-movie flat wide-angles, visual overload and visual minimalism all played like cards to emphasize emotional states of characters. Sometimes it's innovative. In fact any connection we make with characters comes more from stylistic choices of that kind than from any particular brilliance of acting or dialogue, all of which is very average, and in a lot of cases embarrassingly bad. It's never very good, but the bottom falls out when we hit the Grey Goose-fueled okay-I'll-try-being-a-lesbian scene. The plot is about white people's problems: the usual poor-you. All alone in your mansion without adequate sexual thrills. There's even a you-should-try-masturbation-with-a-vibrator conversation: talk about insulated. Didn't we leap that fence with Two Moon Junction and Red Shoe Diaries back in the 1990's? The film's characters are full of clichés: the nasty husband, they dying woman who doesn't quite rise above a well-known type when all's said and done, the mystically-good hooker with the heart of gold. In the end, some adept film-techniques don't raise this one out of its so-what. See more
