Based on a long-running stage success and wildly popular upon its first release, Seventh Heaven is probably Frank Borzage's most famous film, the one where all his principles of mystical romance come together most distinctively. Go to Full Review

This was a perfect example of how the silent film medium had been improved and perfected as one of the premiere art forms of the 20th Century. Go to Full Review

Jan 26, 2019 The best romance movie ever made!
Rey G Sep 20, 2018 It's a very remarkable film, no pun intended. The more I watch the great and glorious silent cinema, the more I become convinced that it was the most honest, frank and emotional branch of cinema as a whole. The story is very simple as in the great plays of the past - and indeed, why is there always a need to complicate things, probably because of the lack of content? - but it's a rhetorical digression. Janet Gaynor is my favourite and a sweetheart! What a performance! so touching, moving, it's like she didn't even have to act but be herself, so convincing she is in the role of Diane. Just watch her saying "I'm too a remarkable fellow!" - the face says it all, the range of emotions is on the surface and they shine! It's really outstanding especially considering that same year she starred also in Murnau's "Sunshine". Her co-star was good too in the role off a cocky but ultimately caring man, who behind a veil hides a magnanimous heart. Technical part off the film completely corresponds to the state of silent cinema of the era: it's done amazingly, the peak of cinema's capabilities, with many marvelous and truly wonderful camera movements, lighting. A separate mention deserves the rich and very melodramatic soundtrack, especially in the scenes where it is mixed with external sounds, like marches, making a wonderful blend of the public and the private. Han G Apr 19, 2017 Borzage in one of his best movies. A story of how love was in the 20s.
Kylo S Dec 3, 2016 Although a bit long, "7th Heaven" is a moving romantic drama from the era of silent pictures.
Rey S Oct 15, 2012 7th Heaven is one of the most visually dazzling and accomplished silent movies with superb direction from Frank Borzage and absolutely gorgeous set design as those wonderful sets really contribute a lot to the film's romantic atmosphere. It has many unforgettable scenes with the staircase climb sequence being the visual highlight. Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell are both wonderful here and this is such a beautiful, immensely romantic movie that not even its overly melodramatic, maudlin ending could hurt it. See more
