Critics Consensus

Despite strong performances from Bruce Willis and Mos Def, 16 Blocks is a shopworn entry in the buddy-action genre.

There's a fine line between old-fashioned and cliched. Go to Full Review

A happier surprise is the smart work of director Richard Donner: 16 Blocks is all jumble and jangle-crowds, snarled traffic, and discordant car horns. Go to Full Review

A solid, bare-knuckle action-thriller from Richard Lethal Weapon Donner that avoids most of the genre's clichs and boasts a commendably dishevelled performance from Willis, as a washed-up NYPD flatfoot dissolving in self-loathing. Go to Full Review

Told in nearly real-time 16 Blocks stops and starts, putting in buffers for decent character moments between Jack and Eddie. It's necessary to understand why they do what they do, but it makes what they're doing occasionally dull. Go to Full Review

At its heart, this is actually an excellent film. But, as filmmakers seek to escalate the big action, believability suffers severely. Go to Full Review

Finn S Aug 6, 2018 Great film and deserves more praise than it gets!
Harry G Jun 25, 2018 ah the old crooked cop gone good. The 16 blocks element of it is barely relevant, I thought it would get more tense as they got closer but you're never quite sure how close they are or how much time is left. You also realise pretty quickly that there's inevitably going to be a courthouse showdown. In fact everything is entirely predictable;. Bruce Willis is reasonable, putting on his quiet Sin City voice but Mos Def is irritating as half the time you're having to concentrate hard to decipher what he's saying. Not the greatest but runs at a quick pace so you can;t get bored. See more
Han R Mar 30, 2018 I watched most of this movie, was walking in and out for the occasional smoke break. I really enjoyed it. I loved the idea of having the trial on the bus, although it did not work out, and I loved how it ended for the most part. There was one not quite feel good moment for me where a guy gets shot (potential bad guy) before he had taken any shots himself. Other than that I generally felt good watching this movie because the characters make smart decisions and are relatable. I still have not seen all the film as I was walking in and out of parts of it (it was on TV, my mom put it in). I think it is definitely worth checking out, and I'd give it 4 stars. See more
Anakin S Feb 1, 2018 I thought 16 Blocks was a great movie and different from usual Bruce Willis stuff. Surprised it didn’t get higher score. I usually liked alternative ending... See more
Hermione R Sep 10, 2017 Trying really hard to enjoy this movie but wtf is up with Mos Def's character?! He's so annoying that I'd want to shoot him let alone saving him. See more
Anakin S Aug 12, 2017 While not as action-packed or smart as one would hope, the talented leads consistently give us drive and a moral compass. See more
