What to Know

Critics Consensus

It doesn't take its terrific premise quite as far as it should, but Splice is a smart, well-acted treat for horror fans.

Fascinating and exciting yet disturbing and potentially upsetting. Go to Full Review

I love the character of Dren, which is nerd spelt backwards. I loved the relationship between her and her putative parents: Adrian Brody and Sarah Polley. Go to Full Review

It doesn't go the complete distance, but this is a wholly admirable, refreshingly grown-up science-fiction movie: a Frankenstein with a beating, gene-spliced heart and top-of-the-range performances. Go to Full Review

Splice is inventive enough that it’s a real shame when it falls apart heading into the home stretch. Go to Full Review

The drama doesn’t stint on sci-fi weirdness, featuring sex-swapping creatures and an uncomfortable stretch of interspecies psychosexual tension. But for all its bizarro energy, it’s also surprisingly perceptive about what it takes to be a parent. Go to Full Review

I cannot recommend Splice because while the concept is genuinely disturbing, it is mostly poorly executed so you may only get a hot fifteen minutes, and I am being generous, of visceral horror. Go to Full Review

Finn S Apr 14, 2019 The main female actress in this movie was absolutely terrible. Probably the worst actress ive ever seen (other than Brie Larson). I would have given this 4 stars because it was a really cool movie with good cgi and a good story. However the Actress who plays Elsa is absolutely dreadful. I cant even begin to stress how horrible of a job she does. See more
Draco R Nov 11, 2018 When they first started I was like literally, out loud "Oh Gawd!" ... then when they took it even further I was literally, "heheheheheeeee" laughing out loud. I've seen some f'd up shit but that scene definitely takes the case. P.S. it's total BS how Sarah Polley starts this shit, then goes completely wacko about it, yet Brody, the good scientist, gets killed and Sarah survives. Whatever... See more
Luke S Aug 17, 2018 Premise, production, and cast all provided fertile ground for a good movie to be made. Instead, it's polluted by shoddy writing and the worst combination of pettiness and degeneracy since the Palace of Versailles, creating a malformed cripple that fails at being either a decent sci-fi or horror film. A rather apt comparison, considering the flatteringly average review by critics, who are all but defined by their cloistered, self-obsessed existence. See more
Theodore W Apr 14, 2018 This is hands down one of the worst movies that I have ever seen. I saw it when it first came out. (I was 13 and still am a horror freak) After I left that movie I swore to myself I would write a letter someday to the producers, writers, actors, even the lighting man just to let them know how horrible and displeasing this movie was. PLEASE SAVE YOUR PRECIOUS TIME AND DO NOT WATCH. See more
Poe R Apr 5, 2018 Dumb woman gets what is coming to her. Movie is mostly just bickering between her and her boyfriend. Waste of time. This is a cliched formula that I don't believe has held up well See more
Hagrid L Mar 29, 2018 Splice is an underrated creature feature about the dangers of tampering with mother nature. The performances from Sarah Polley and Adrian Brody are quite good, as is the interesting story. It's a story that combines themes about tampering with nature, as well as horrifying body horror with effectively disturbing scenes that will make your skin crawl. It's a creepy, atmospheric horror flick that is both intelligent and horrifying. It's one of the most underrated films of the decade. See more
