Dorian Gray

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Despite a lavish and polished production, Dorian Gray is tame and uninspired with a lifeless performance by Ben Barnes in the title role.

This uneasy mixture of horror and elegant wit, which worked so well originally, never really catches fire thanks to Parker's undistinguished handling. Go to Full Review

Teenagers will love this film. They will love it because there are lots of close-ups of Barnes being done unto or doing unto others. As a vehicle for a rising and undeniably talented star, it hits the spot. Go to Full Review

An ambitious if decidedly uneven interpretation of the last great Gothic horror novel. Go to Full Review

Taking liberties with Wilde’s source, Parker’s adaptation accentuates far too much, insisting on special effects and even some contrived suspense in place of the author’s dark drama. Go to Full Review

The whole thing plays like MTV meets Penguin Literary Classics, all fast editing and high gloss cinematography that just can't compensate for the lack of any emotional resonance. Go to Full Review

Kylo P Jul 30, 2018 As a huge fan of the book I was really disappointed with the way the story was written for the film. The change of Dorians character made the film suffer and lack real substance. See more
Rey S Jun 30, 2018 ahahah so bad, but kind of fun.
Harry S Nov 19, 2017 Dorian Gray has a dark and gory story, that was absolutely will portrayed in this movie, with the help of Ben Barnes, that wasn't as bad as they wanted to make he seem on his role, and Colin Firth. At the end of the day, it is a different movie with a diferent narrative that can please some preverse minds. See more
Harry G Jun 11, 2017 I think this movie is thoroughly engaging. There is always a huge price to pay when you ask Satan for a favor! I think the film is too short. It would have been a great miniseries on a station like Stars.I would have enjoyed another few hours just enjoying the lavish production and the great, sinister dialogue. I want to see more of Mr. Gray's evil, sexual adventures and more Lord Henry. Lord Henry is a great, great character. This film does stray from the novel, but I think it does so in a very entertaining way. The novel is my favorite story of all time. I have no problem with the changes in this movie. It is the best movie I've seen about Dorian Gray. See more
Ron P Jun 5, 2014 A tale of gothic horror, ethernal youth, interesting theme.Great cast , Ben Barnes makes an excellent Dorian.
Abraham S Jan 13, 2013 This film bored me, I expected it to be scary but it wasn't. I thought Ben Barnes was a good fit for Dorian Gray but him and his fellow cast members are just bland. See more
