When hard times hit Swallow Falls, its townspeople can only afford to eat sardines. Flint Lockwood, a failed inventor, thinks he has the answer to the town's crisis. He builds a machine that converts water into food, and becomes a local hero when tasty treats fall from the sky like rain. But when the machine spins out of control and threatens to bury the whole world under giant mounds of food, Flint finds he may have bitten off more than he can chew.

Critics Consensus

Quirky humor, plucky characters and solid slapstick make this family comedy a frenetically tasty time at the movies.

There are many funny moments and some pleasing suspense towards the end, but as a cautionary tale about the dangers of overeating and obesity it's more likely to boost sales at the candy bar. That may be one good reason for watching it at home.

Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs is visually inventive and exuberant, and has some neat running gags. But its characterisations are a little disappointing.

Director/writer team Phil Lord and Chris Miller cobble a story around the storybook’s premise but it’s the whimsical imagery of raining hamburgers, a Jell-O mold castle, an ice-cream winter wonderland, and a spaghetti tornado that carries the film.

A very cute kids movie

Mar 15, 2019

This movie made me laugh out loud with its clever jokes. The machines Flint built were used as a comedic effect but were also really helpful in some scenes, which I found really smart. The concept of the film was quite creative but could be more well executed. The world building was a little rushed in the beginning. It is a wonderful family movie with an extra layer that makes it more enjoyable for everyone. Just be aware of some visuals that are a little disturbing and disgusting (at least for me)!
