What to Know

Critics Consensus

Thanks in large part to one of Denzel Washington's most powerful on-screen performances, The Hurricane is a moving, inspirational sports drama, even if it takes few risks in telling its story.

The movie's dogged humorlessness, and its sixties-style cant, don't do justice to all the political crosscurrents in this story. Go to Full Review

The Hurricane features stellar work from Denzel Washington but it also speaks to the overwhelming amount of injustice taking place in the American criminal justice system. Go to Full Review

There are a handful of scenes that Washington carries all by himself, but the rest of The Hurricane is an ill-constructed failure. It's slow and poorly written, and -- somehow -- it's a non-fiction story that often feels unrealistic Go to Full Review

Poe S Aug 30, 2017 Denzel Washington was really good, and the supporting cast was serviceable. The first half of the film was very engrossing, but the rest of the film dragged on and on. I think I felt more relief about the movie reaching the end then I did for the characters in the end. And it doesn't help much to find out about how several elements in the story were not accurate to real life. 6/10 See more
