Betsy (Kirsten Dunst) and Arlene (Michelle Williams) are two 15-year-old girls in 1976. When Betsy visits Arlene at the Watergate Motel, the two accidentally stumble into the middle of the infamous Watergate robbery. In order to keep them quiet, Nixon (Dan Hedaya) appoints them as honorary dog walkers. As they travel in and out of the White House, their seemingly innocent actions start a chain of events that may eventually lead to Nixon's resignation as President of the United States.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

A clever, funny slice of alternate history, Dick farcically re-imagines the Watergate era and largely succeeds, thanks to quirky, winning performances from Michelle Williams, Kirsten Dunst and Will Ferrell.

Kylo G Aug 3, 2018 This movie is made of the "Hello Dollys" we desperately need during these Trump days. Goofy fun.
Kylo G Nov 22, 2017 Outstandingly quirky and unusual performances from the great Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams. Will Ferrell also did a gave a different type of performance! A great big celebrity cameo in at the end! Outstanding costumes as well! It's also really well shot! But, the writing and direction are just ok okay, and don't take full fully take advantage of the assets they have! It's not as funny as it should have been, and could have been! They also don't fully use or take advantage of the great and brilliant characters they gave made for Kirsten and Michelle! But, I still think it was an alright watch, and I'm not too angry about seeing it! It was very interesting as an alternative/alternate (I think maybe alternative doesn't work.?!) history movie! Theodore R May 9, 2017 Delightful and crazy and astonishingly witty movie
Albus S Apr 3, 2017 A few chuckles, but not terribly funny. Clever in a Forest Gump sort of way (although not nearly as good as Gump). The cleverness involved these two girls stumbling into these Watergate situations. Dan Hedaya's good as Nixon, and Kissinger was a dead ringer. See more
Han R Feb 13, 2010 An original comedy with a funny take on the Watergate scandal. (First viewing - Teen years)
George G Feb 16, 2008 "Dick" works on two very different levels and succeeds admirably on both. It is first and foremost a comedy about two very likeable teenage protagonists played wonderfully by Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams. On the flip side, however, lies an extremely funny satire about the Watergate scandal so hilarious and precise I laughed out loud numerous times. The key to brilliant satire is a heart underneath and thankfully, Williams and Dunst give their characters gobs of sincerity and warmth. Dan Hedaya is also very good as Tricky Dick himself and the rest of the supporting cast, which includes Harry Shearer, Will Ferrell, Bruce McCullough, Ana Gasteyer, Dave Foley, Jim Breuer, and Saul Rubinek are all in top-form.
