What to Know

Critics Consensus

Writer-director Nancy Meyers takes the winning formula of the 1961 original and gives it an amiable modern spin, while young star Lindsay Lohan shines in her breakout role.

This 1998 romantic comedy mostly bores with its cumbersome exposition and close-ups of trivial objects scattered throughout lackluster montage sequences. Go to Full Review

New pic is slick, sentimental and exceptionally well cast, with enough cross-generational appeal to suggest strong commercial potential. Go to Full Review

Although The Parent Trap is very much a children's film, the sweetness of the story about trying to bring a broken family together holds strong and is still an excellent watch. Go to Full Review

The film has aged pretty well. It's got good performances, it still has the entertainment value, and it doesn't feel that dated other than the effects. Go to Full Review

Rey M Apr 21, 2019 Beautiful, Sentimental, Memorable & Tear-jerking. Period.
Hermione W Apr 14, 2019 This is what exceedingly wealthy producers in 90's Hollywood thought divorced families are like. Not only is it an insult to the struggle that single parents throughout the world go through, it trivializes motivations that lead to divorce, treating the breakup of a family and hiding a twin sister on the other side of the world as a quirky happenstance. On top of that, it encourages children to indulge in the unrealistic fantasy that they can get their parents to forget why breaking up was the best path forward under the circumstances. Of the 90's films that attempt to tackle divorce, this is by far the worst. You are better off with Mrs. Doubtfire, the Santa Clause, even Liar Liar, which understand the importance of emphasizing the parents' love for their children rather than belittling divorce as some messed up way for rich assholes to F around in glamorous fantasy land at the expense of their daughters. Abraham R Apr 13, 2019 This movie, The Parent Trap, is a movie I've seen over 20 times. It's really good and I use to see it on TV every time. At first, I didn't know that Lindsay Lohan played both Hallie and Annie. It's a really funny movie and has an happy ending. If you like happy endings, then this is the movie for you. It's all starts from the camp and crazy things happen. What they did was something that's almost impossible in real life. But still, it's a awesome movie for kids and adults with a happy ending. When you watch it, you can't really tell whose Hallie and whose Annie, but you can tell by the accents. Annie has a British accent because she lives in England and Hallie has an American accent. Hope you enjoy this wonderful movie! See more

Rey P Dec 11, 2018 ï¿ 1/2The Parent Trapï¿ 1/2Â? is one of the most spectacular movies ever! I have watched this movie a hundred times and I laugh every time. It is packed full of pranks and two funny teens. In this story a set of twins, Hallie Parker and Annie James (both Lindsay Lohan), were separated at birth. During a summer camp 12 years later they meet again. They don't like each other at first and a prank show off starts. In a matter of days both girls get sent to a special cabin, the Isolation cabin that they have to share for the rest of camp. It is in that very cabin that they make an important discovery; they are twins! They find this out in two easy steps that you will have to see to believe. For the rest of the movie the girls switch lives and try to stop their dadï¿ 1/2(TM)s, Nick Parker (Dennis Quaid) and his cruel fiance, Meredith Blake`s (Elaine Hendriy), wedding from happening, and maybe to hook their parents back up! One thing I like was how Lindsay Lohan really separates the girlsï¿ 1/2(TM) personalities and actions from one another. It looks and feels like two different people when it is really just one very talented actress.I also really liked when the girls pranked one another before being sent to their new cabin. My favorite prank is the finale of all pranks and the funniest. You will have to see this part in the movie to believe what Hallie did! I think the lesson is don't let precious things get away. If you like pranks and a little romance this one of a kind movie is for you, it might help if you are a teen or older. If you are not into love and or pranks you won't like this movie. It is rated PG but, all kids should watch this movie for the laughs. This is a spectacular film. I give it a A+, 5 of 5, and ***** of *****. See more
