After an unusually short pregnancy, Karen Powell (Diane Lane) gives birth to a baby boy whose body ages much faster than the normal rate. With her husband, Brian (Brian Kerwin), Karen raises their son, Jack (Robin Williams), who appears to be a 40-year-old man when he is only 10. Though Jack ages rapidly physically, he is mentally and emotionally still a young boy, which causes him considerable difficulty. Eventually, Jack gains the support of his peers, which helps him live a fuller life.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Robin Williams' childlike energy is channeled in all the wrong places with Jack, a bizarre tragedy that aims for uplift but sinks deep into queasy schmaltz.

The movie manages to transcend the material -- mostly because of Williams and his perpetually Morkian innocence -- and become a satisfying, occasionally maudlin tale of belonging, understanding the passage of time and living for the moment. Go to Full Review

Williams works hard at seeming to be a kid inside an adult body, and some of his inspirations work well. But he has been ill-served by a screenplay that isn't curious about what his life would really be like. Go to Full Review

Draco S Apr 9, 2019 Its hard to believe that Francis Ford Coppola directed this abomination. It tries to be a heart-warming dramedy, but it fails miserably. The plot was ludicrous and filled with circumstances that don't make sense. The characters are horrible; they are terribly written and extremely melodramatic. The comedy was childish and cringe worthy. No development whatsoever, a whimsical score filled with schmaltz, and an ending that screams Hallmark Channel. Everyone involved with making this would be ashamed. See more
Abraham P Feb 26, 2018 From the director of the Godfather comes Jack... Seriously? Robin Williams acts like a jackass in front of the camera, Francis Ford Coppola is clearly jacking off behind the camera, and the end result is jack shit. This atrocious misfire is depressing on so many levels. See more
Theodore W Oct 22, 2017 ....so the guy that directed this directed "The Godfather"? Wow
Finn S May 18, 2017 This movie is well acted enough, but the idea behind it is just too depressing to be funny.
Hagrid L Apr 18, 2017 This is probably the oddest film I've ever seen. I like to think of it as a film that is best when you learn from it. It explains the little things in life that we go through that we take for granted. Also, probably one of the best monologue quotes of all time at its end. Great movie. See more
Kylo W Sep 14, 2013 Sadly underrated this movie is. It has so much humanity in its center and Robin Williams gives a sympathetic and charming performance as Jack. The movie has a good message as well being that it is possible to befriend anyone no matter how different they are from you. Only gripe I can really hold against Jack is that occasionally there are some cringeworthy lines in the dialogue. Nonetheless, Jack is a personal favorite of mine that I've enjoyed ever since my childhood and I have no shame in saying that. See more
