A pair of high-class performances power this Second World War yarn. Go to Full Review
David Mermelstein Wall Street Journal Sep 29, 2023
The movie’s central moral question -- Can we justify the loss of human life to save inanimate objects? -- remains as potent as ever. And one of this film’s greatest attributes is that it leaves the answer to the viewer. Go to Full Review

A thrillingly visceral experience with a questioning, philosophical soul. This was the last studio action extravaganza to be shot in black-and-white, and the shades of gray suit the film's murky moral inquiries. Go to Full Review

Finn M Dec 20, 2018 A very watchable old war film, that keeps you engaged.
Han R Dec 4, 2018 A classic of its era. Some great camerawork and one of Lancaster's best roles. I truly love this wonderful film
Hagrid S Dec 1, 2018 Interesting movie with real-world stunts wich needed an extrordinary planning. To scrap two trains in real and three locomotives is extrordinary. Also the hunt of the locomotive by a plane with the changing perspectives from above and below is outstanding. In ages of computerised-animation this film is really amazing. See more
Finn W Apr 14, 2018 A solidly entertaining WW2 action film that has its moments and its flaws. A highly entertaining film that is a must watch for fans of war films. See more
Kylo W Jan 5, 2018 One of my favorite movies of all time. When you imagine what little filmmaking had at it's disposal back then, what they accomplished is a marvel. The overall plot of the movie manages to be exciting, unique, and believable while it's ability to communicate its themes strongly is something that most modern filmmakers seem only able to attempt to aspire to. The movie is one of the few that I consider to transcend being simply a movie and became a work of art. See more
Abraham P Oct 27, 2017 Lancaster is great here as is the cast in this well done war thriller.
