What to Know

Critics Consensus

The blood pours freely in Argento's classic Suspiria, a giallo horror as grandiose and glossy as it is gory.

What makes [Suspiria] especially effective is how they use horror to make a point about educational institutions' enforcement of gender hegemony to interrogate conventional femininity. Go to Full Review

What lingers is not a sense of evil but exhilaration in how far Argento and his fellow filmmakers were willing to go to shock and delight; the movie's sheer exuberance is the cinematic equivalent of a blood transfusion. Go to Full Review

Argento accomplishes so much simply through lighting and music - which goes a long way to compensate for the stilted dialogue and awkward character interactions. Go to Full Review

The dialogue is kind of goofy at times, but to me, that is part of the charm. My problem with Suspiria is that with a run time of only an hour and 40 minutes, it somehow feels like a 2 hour + movie. Go to Full Review

Suspiria is abrasive, corny in all the right ways, and a blast from start to finish. Go to Full Review

Abraham S Apr 5, 2019 This film is not for the faint of heart. Suspiria is an excellent and terrifying film that is massively underrated and looked over. The film has an excellent setting that is both beautiful and eerie at the same time. The camera work is incredible and the lighting is just pure genius. The films story is original and is pushed forward by good performances and developed, memorable characters. The film is very disturbing, gory, and unsettling but it is not over the top, it is just enough to leave you with your jaw dropped frozen with fright. The films practical effects are also good and (mostly) still hold up today. The score by Goblin is brilliant and chills your spine at the same time. This movie will mess with your mind and make you question your sanity by the end of it. It really draws you in and keeps you attentive with its creepiness and intense moments. The film has elements of a paranormal horror film along with psychological elements and a touch of slasher. Overall a truly horrific and unsettling film that will leave you amazed, and stunned. Rey W Apr 4, 2019 One of the scariest movies I have seen. Since it is a foreign country to me, that only intensifies the fright you feel.
Apr 3, 2019 very stylish,scary,and bloody
Abraham S Apr 2, 2019 A furious ride of nightmares where eyes and ears are prisoners of a horrific and malevolent spell. Acting and plot are almost laughable but Suspiria creeps under the skin and won't leave you anymore. See more
Feb 11, 2019 what a crap! why this became a cult movie, i realy wonder. its beyond bad b-movie trash, its boring as hell and the bright red fakeblood only utterly funny. what a waste of time! sorry but there are hundreds of horror movies out there which deserve the title cultmovie! but not this crap. George S Jan 31, 2019 Hard to know what to say about this. It's an odd-ball of a production. It's clearly a visual feast, but not at all a mind-bender, and that music is all sorts of things - catchy, ensorcelling and annoying at the same time. See more
