Apathetic gym teacher Freddy Shoop is ready to take the summer off in Hawaii, but he's forced to either teach summer-school English or risk losing his tenure. Now he's stuck teaching a group of unmotivated students as disappointed to be stuck in school over the summer as he is. But with the help of a friendly history teacher, Shoop is at least learning how to act the part of supportive mentor and perhaps even learning something about himself as well.

An endearing, convulsively funny and faintly thoughtful hot-weather entertainment.

A bit bland compared to Reiner's Steve Martin comedies, but engagingly played.

Mr. Harmon has an easygoing attractiveness, but neither he nor anyone else seems comfortable with the film's antic pace. And for all its busyness, this comedy has no real focus, ricocheting from character to character with wearying abandon.

It's another '80s comedy that the teens of the '80s who are now parents of the 21st century are likely to be shocked and appalled by the dated and iffy content.

Carl Reiner's underrated 80s classic is still as charming and funny as it was 30 years ago. Dated but in a good way. The lingo, the clothes, the music, the 80s, love it all.

A quirky film, a gym teacher taking on the responsibility of parenting kids in a summer class... where the hell were the parents? Seriously this film was a cry for parental attention! But the kids had to sort it out for themselves for the wackiness to ensue. Still entertaining for this retro film to be enjoyed today.

I watched this one several times as a kid and wanted ti revisit it. It's amusing and an easy watch. The cast, headed by Mark Harmon is quite good and it's just a fun movie.

A feel-good eighties comedy about a teacher getting through to his students. (First viewing - In my early twenties)
