When a luxury cruise ship reaches the high seas, its owner (Ian Holm) receives a disturbing phone call from a man known only as Juggernaut (Freddie Jones) : Pay a steep ransom, or he will explode the ship. Soon after the demand, explosives expert Lt. Cmdr. Anthony Fallon (Richard Harris) and his squad parachute onto the cruise ship to defuse the rigged time bombs. On land, Superintendent John McLeod (Anthony Hopkins), who has family on board, searches for the terrorist.

The results are nauseatingly impactful, and feature the kind of spectacular aerial shots (the liner plunging through mountainous waves) that no amount of CG technology, even today, can match.

The title doesn't provide any clues -- no, this isn't a movie about the X-Men villain -- but Juggernaut is a nifty British thriller that offers maximum returns on its minimalist approach.

Underrated action-suspense-thriller from the mid-70s.

What I mainly remember is that Richard Harris was going to try the first bomb, and based on his success/failure, people at the other bombs could diffuse them. So they all knew the bad guy said to cut the blue wire, but Harris decided, silently, to cut the red instead. If his gamble had been wrong, and he blew up, the other folks would have thought he cut the blue wire, so they would have all cut the red wire and everyone would've died.

Despite this crime suspense film not having the best script, lacking characterisation and not having the most satisfying conclusion it is kept afloat by a great cast, plenty of tense scenes, decent production, I liked the fact you see the intricacies and processes that go on during bomb defusing operations and it even has some humour to keep it entertaining between the solid action scenes.
