Washington, in his best performance since the black-story-white-viewpoint misfire of Cry Freedom, is exceptionally good as a fugitive slave whose tense relationship with Matthew Broderick charges the film's emotional core. Go to Full Review

The film's chief virtue is its spectacular choreography. The final battle... is a striking combination of dynamism and clarity. Go to Full Review

I really liked this film and think they did an amazing job with it. Matthew Broderick's performance aside, it was great to see legends Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, and Andre Braugher in scenes together. Go to Full Review

Despite being disappointed by Matthew Broderick's performance, all of the other actors were working at 100%. There's a reason Denzel won an Oscar for this. Go to Full Review

Hermione R Feb 26, 2019 Shaw was an officer in the Federal Army during the American Civil War who volunteered to lead the first company of black soldiers. Shaw was forced to deal with the prejudices of both the enemy (who had orders to kill commanding officers of blacks), and of his own fellow officers. We see the formation of the regiment, its first volunteers, their training, disputes with administrators, their first operations in South Carolina and, finally, their moment of glory - the attack on Fort Wagner. The unofficial leaders of the group are gravedigger John Rawlins (Morgan Freeman) and fugitive slave Trip (Denzel Washington), respectively representing the brains and heart of the organization. The 54th acquit themselves valiantly at Fort Wagner, SC, charging a fortification manned by some 1,000 Confederates. Glory was based on Lincoln Kirstein's Lay This Laurel and Peter Burchard's One Gallant Rush; the latter book was founded on the letters of Col. Robert Gould Shaw, the real-life character played by Matthew Broderick. The film won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for co-star Denzel Washington, and additional statuettes for Best Cinematography (Freddie Francis) and Sound Recording. A stirring and long overdue tribute to the black soldiers who fought for the Union cause in the Civil War.One of the great war films and perhaps the greatest film ever made about the American Civil War. Feb 1, 2019 The best, GREATEST thrilling and inspiring epic movie ever made! With the best movie character ever portrayed: Denzel Washington as Trip! And the best movie score ever composed! See more
Leia S Dec 13, 2018 It's a overall good movie but it uses a lot of vulgar language, hard to watch at some parts and not suitable for children.
Albus S Dec 7, 2018 Wonderfuly emotional
Han R Nov 14, 2018 A great Civil War epic about an African American unit in the Union army.
Rey R Oct 30, 2018 Possibly the last film so far made to suggest that war might be a noble pursuit, and going agsinst the grain of Spike Lee's pessimism about racial politics, this CGI-free movie puts its lead actors in what appears to be genuine danger of lethal injury and paints a pleasingly complex and believable picture of the era.
