John Gillett Sight & Sound Feb 11, 2020
Exodus, then, sees Preminger's sheer movie-making talent at its most extended. Unhappily, the ability to sustain a large canvas does not necessarily result in a good film. Go to Full Review
Tom Milne Time Out Jan 26, 2006
Watchable mainly for the sheer skill and drive of Preminger's direction, although at 220 minutes even that long outstays its welcome. Go to Full Review

In the end, one should take from this picture a shaken feeling of having been through a lot of harsh and ennobling experiences. Go to Full Review

There’s something to be said for the streamlining of so much historical content (and, yes, fictional deviations) found in Uris’ bowling-ball-sized novel. Go to Full Review
Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies Jul 20, 2021
The depiction of the founding of the modern state of Israel requires an epic film but the film takes a number of liberties--to be fair, the book is historical fiction. Go to Full Review

Most of the time seems well spent, although Dalton Trumbo's otherwise skilful screenplay includes too many garrulous slowdowns while the characters discuss their conflicting ideologies. Go to Full Review

Luke R Apr 13, 2019 This film highlights the antisemitism that still existed after the second world war without bashing Arabs and Muslims. The land the Jews in the story were residing in at the time later in the movie was provided to them by an Arab. This movie isn't for ever one, and is quite long, however those who are interested in the film will love it. See more
Feb 1, 2019 The best inspiring movie ever made! With the best movie score ever composed!
Luke R Aug 11, 2018 Dispels the aromatic jihadi propaganda
Poe R Jul 13, 2018 Otto Preminger was clearly having an off-day when he cast blond blue-eyed Paul Newman as the Jewish renegade leading a horde of refugees into Palestine at the birth of Israel. Incoherent, endless, turgidly written, directed and acted - this is at times exasperating cinema. Sal Mineo is the only performer to emerge with credit. Extraordinary to realise this was made in the same year as Psycho and shares the same screenwriter as Spartacus (Dalton Trumbo). See more
Ron W Mar 25, 2018 Preminger's ambitious chronicle of the formation of the State of Israel contains some stirring moments, but as an epic it's too sprawling, overlong, and lacks dramatic center. See more
Leia R Dec 3, 2017 A troubling historical drama which entwines the birth of a nation with the ugly truth that nearly every country is born of violence & personal loss - even the USA. See more
