A medical thriller of obvious authenticity... Crichton exploits the suspense with enough skill to make you overlook the far-fetched nature of the premise. Go to Full Review

One of the great '70s suspense thrillers (with a peerless Jerry Goldsmith score), this Michael Crichton film of a Robin Cook novel is one of the most influential mysteries of that decade. Go to Full Review

George P Mar 10, 2019 A feisty, feminist intern uncovers a medical conspiracy in this icy thriller about mysterious goings-on at Boston Memorial Hospital. It take 40 minutes for the thrilling plot line to ignite. But once Dr. Susan Wheeler (Genevieve Bujold) does some digging and discovers an overabundance of anesthesia-induced comas among otherwise healthy young patients. Coma becomes a very feverish tense superb suspense-thriller. Coma is an extremely entertaining suspense drama in the Hitchcock tradition. I loved it . See it and worry. See more
Luke L Sep 30, 2018 Not a bad thriller here, as Genevive Bujold tries to figure out why routine patients are becoming comatose in the hospital she works at. I really didn't feel it THAT weird or strange, or even suspenseful (save for the last few minutes) The ending is a bit ridiculous. I'm sure there was a lot more Michael Douglas could have done then just running around. Really. See more
CULT See more
Rey L Apr 11, 2018 This is a really good movie about a conspiracy in a hospital to put patients into comas and sell their organs. uncovering the plot, the heroine also gets put into a coma by these evil doctors and barely escapes alive! See more
Theodore G Nov 19, 2017 Extremely schematic thriller in the seventies paranoid vein directed unflashily by Michael Crichton (who also adapted the screenplay from Robin Cook's book). It starts out alright with Geneviève Bujold's Susan Wheeler becoming suspicious about a series of unexplained comas at her workplace (Boston Memorial Hospital). She confides in her lover Michael Douglas who may or may not be trustworthy. But about an hour in, we know she is correct and then the running starts. Of course, there are further discoveries to be made and we don't quite know all of the answers until the final few minutes, when (like a classic episode of the Batman TV show) Bujold is captured by the main villain and about to meet her doom unless unless unless (she is rescued, of course). So, it's a classic cross-cutting finale straight out of the silent days. I suppose the big secret discovered at the Jefferson Institute (where comatose patients are sent to live out their days in a brutalist monstrosity) is suitably surprising but somehow they couldn't hang a whole film on it. Nevertheless, this was fine as mindless fare when your mind is nowhere. See more
Theodore W Nov 6, 2017 It's not a bad thriller, you might even like it more if you're an MD, but Bujold distracts.
