Casablanca is comfort food. It reassures us that the moral math still works: the good guy wins, the Nazis lose, the underdog prevails. America enters the fight — and proves it was right to do so. Go to Full Review
Pauline Kael The New Yorker Jul 28, 2022
It's far from a great film, but it has a special appealingly schlocky romanticism, and you're never really pressed to take its melodramatic twists and turns seriously. Go to Full Review
Manny Farber The New Republic Feb 18, 2022
Casablanca is as ineffectual as a Collier’s short story, but with one thing and another -- like Bergman, Veidt and Humphrey Bogart -- it is a pleasure of sorts. Go to Full Review

Casablanca is the absolute acme of efficiency in Hollywood storytelling and character development. There’s a place for everything and everything in its place. Every line, camera move, shadow and gesture—it all fits together. Go to Full Review

Casablanca still holds up as one of the greats. Not only is the film technically strong, but it remains a timely and important text about using your voice to fight. Go to Full Review

Flawlessly directed by Michael Curtiz, this tense yet expansive and funny, endlessly quotable tale of glamorous anti-fascists trying to escape the title city, foil the Nazis and come to terms with past romances remains highly re-watchable. Go to Full Review

Harry S Apr 27, 2019 I know, I know.."Citizen Kane" is the greatest film of all time..but I've seen that movie twice. I've seen "Casablanca" so many times I've lost count..I've never gotten tired of it..ever. It will make you laugh, cry, love, cheer. Nobody is cooler than Rick. No one. See more
Ron W Apr 25, 2019 Vive la Liberte'
Finn R Apr 13, 2019 One of the best movies of all time.
Kylo L Apr 11, 2019 Its a classic with some amazing, one liners, and moving scenes, whats not to love?
Theodore R Apr 8, 2019 Simply superb, unforgettable entertainment, with more memorable vignettes than any film I've ever seen. One moment (among dozens) that always gets to me is the look on Ingrid Bergman's face as she marvels at Paul Henreid dangerously and bravely leading the clientele at Rick's in the singing of the Free French anthem. In five seconds she simultaneously portrays a depth of caring, admiration, devotion, and respect that very few actresses could possibly muster. See more
