The blocky cinematography that never seems to capture what it's supposed to be looking at could almost be called avant-garde. Go to Full Review

One of the masterpieces of truly feckless cinema, an epic fail of such grandeur that Ed Wood himself would be hard-pressed to do better. Worse. You know what I mean. Go to Full Review

Unfortunately, while it certainly broke new ground in terms of explicit gore, it isn't a very good film. Go to Full Review

Harry W Feb 16, 2019 This is the o.g. splatter film. It's so bad it's hilarious. You either love it or you dispise it. There isn't a middle ground.
Leia S Sep 10, 2018 Mal Arnold is an Egyptian caterer killing women and severing parts of their bodies to make a feast to resurrect the goddess Ishtar. Luckily, a woman hires him to cater a dinner party for her daughter, and she agrees to an Egyptian feast ... because inexplicably, her daughter, Playboy Playmate Connie Mason, is interested in ancient Egyptian culture. If that isn't enough coincidences, Mason is dating cop William Kerwin who is not only investigating the murder spree, but also taking a class on Egyptian culture with Mason. Despite having all of the pieces of the plot handed to him on a silver platter, Kerwin takes some time to figure out who the killer is, which gives a lot of opportunity to stage explicit gore sequences. So ... objectively speaking, this is a terrible film. Most of the actors are awful and are clearly reading their lines off various props in the scenes. It's barely over an hour long, and still contains a ton of scenes of characters laboriously walking from one place to another to stretch for time. Most egregiously, after the movie is essentially done, there's an extra scene where Kerwin explains the entire plot all over gain. Still ... like most of Lewis's films, this has a real spark to it. It's not one of his best films, but it's worth watching not just because of it's status as the first real gore film, but because it has a kind of life and energy to it that shines through even though Lewis clearly is just trying to churn out some fast bucks. Abraham W Jun 17, 2017 This movie is judged by today's standards. When you think about this movie being made in 1963, this is groundbreaking horror. The Andy Griffith Show was in its 3rd season and still in black and white when this came out. Can you imagine Andy and Helen, on a date, watching this? See more
