Plagued by nightmares and visitations from tortured ghosts, Casey Beldon turns to a spiritual adviser named Sendak for help. They discover a family curse that dates back to Nazi Germany: an evil spirit that can take over the body of anyone and is getting stronger with each possession, as it tries to gain full entrance to this world.

Critics Consensus

David Goyer's Unborn is a tame genre effort with cheap thrills and scares that border on silliness.

[An] exuberantly creepy mash-up of Jewish folklore, J-horror atmospherics, and demonic possession boilerplate.

Cue a creepy toddler, various demonically possessed adults and a Jewish exorcism conducted by Gary Oldman. He's a vastly better actor than the film deserves, but he can't make the script seem even slightly better than it is.

Aside from some genuinely creepy imagery carbon copied from better films, Goyer’s hammy attempt to incite shocks results only in laughs, while his story structure causes eye-rolls.

But the film's fundamental flaw is that these solid spooky moments hang on a narrative that's not nearly strong enough to bear their weight.

The Unborn may not be for everyone, but for me it's horrific plot may not be that bad at all.

A broken eerie promise being possessed as a demonic spoof whilst overdoing it thoroughly throughout in silly exaggeration. (C-)

Odette Annable gives a shitty performance, jumpscares and more jumpscares. I enjoyed some scenes and the explanation for the haunting, but apart from that, nothing new here.

Decent enough horror but the main actress was a little wooden at times. Not sure why it gets such low ratings.

Boring and unoriginal with very few scary parts and laughable acting even from the bigger named actors in the film
