Well worth seeing for Foster, who even transcends the fake-looking spiky wig she wears in the second half. Go to Full Review

This film about sexual assault, written by Tom Topor and directed by Jonathan Kaplan, is not just about a gang of rapists, the perpetrators, but also about the callow and craven men who cheered on the penetrators. Go to Full Review

Jan 26, 2019 The best courtroom movie ever made!
Finn M Oct 18, 2018 A difficult (and still-relevant) plot with intriguing acting.
Rey G Oct 5, 2018 How tragic it is that a film about the everyday neglect of sexual violence by our social institutions, about the moral necessity of listening to and believing victims, about the mundane professional and personal injustices suffered by women still feels so relevant, even so timeless, thirty years after the fact. Foster's performance is rightly celebrated for its depth and power, a mixture of fierceness in the face of toxic patriarchy and fragility in the wake of extreme sadism. It is a terrible irony that Foster-the-actress is at her strongest when the character is at her most vulnerable, during the infamous scene of the assault itself-smartly told in flashback, after it has already been verbally described by Foster herself, so that we understand it largely through her perspective, its savagery somewhat negated by our expectation. As a viewer, it feels strange to wish a movie was both less of its time and, simultaneously, less familiar today, but while the utterly 80s hairstyles, shoulder pads, and drum machine hits date the movie, far too much here is still far too relevant. Rey M Aug 24, 2018 Although very difficult to watch in its third act, The Accused is still an essential movie about rape as it's so heartbreaking, terrible and urgent in its tone. Jodie Foster absolutely shines in what is easily her very best, deservedly Oscar-winning performance. The reason why the movie is so terrific and effective, though, lies in its phenomenal structure which makes it consistently engaging, even gripping to watch and deftly edited and paced throughout. It's truly is a powerful, highly important courtroom drama. See more
Finn W Oct 29, 2017 The Accussed (1988) ??? / ???? Knockout drama about young woman who wants justice after being brutally raped one night at a bar. Powerful thoughtful film anchored by a brilliant performance by Jodi Foster. Very well worth seeing. Only complaint: is that reenactment scene near the end really necessary? See more
