Is this Spider-Man the funniest? No, but it’s aiming for something richer (particularly in the emotional beats between him and his now-wife Zendaya).

This is a story steeped in a time of magic and myth. Like the sirens luring men to their doom, it's here where Nolan's more modern tone and approach clashes with the otherworldly challenges Odysseus encounters.

This film has musicality. The editing, the sound design, the way it brings you into Nikki's world and then this story of these two broken people who find each other. The movie in some ways, Daniel Roher has been building to.

A masterclass in acting that's hard to watch, but that's the point. You might see someone you know here. It's a very relatable performance.

Some of Mescal's best roles are his quietest, where we can imagine the complicated thoughts dancing behind his sad eyes. It's strange then, to see him super-sized into this heroic He-Man of a warrior, slicing and dicing nameless centurions.

While prisons are often seen as a place of punishment, Sing Sing is about the living, breathing work of rehabilitation. You can see it in the faces of the actors on opening night and in the careful choice of language.

In the end, I was most pleased with what the movie was not. This isn't a bridge to a new era of Marvel movies. It's not the magic solution to erase Disney's shambolic efforts of the last few years. Really, this is Deadpool's party.

Civil War captures a very 21st-century feeling of helplessness. War isn't hell, it just is. The reasons, the cause, it's all irrelevant — this is just another thing to endure.
