As happens much more frequently than is generally acknowledged when it comes to films, the lowbrow proles are right. Digger is dead on arrival.

There was a certain poetry and logic to soldier and priest, sword and scripture, joining forces to lead the most massive peasant revolt in English history. But here, it gets thrown out of whack by shoving a sad-sack farmer into the foreground.

Zach Cregger’s horror-comedy Resident Evil is a real blast of a movie, fast, funny, scary, and inspired. Only an exuberant film lover could come up with such a gleefully inventive ninety-five-minute thrill ride as this one.

We're seeing the limits of Jacob Elordi's acting ability and star quality here. He should never again play a depressed person wandering around lost in his own inner turmoil, because he really doesn't do it well. He just looks handsome and mopey.

Tony might seem minor as a biopic... But it’s presented as the crucial sliver when he finds an infinitely better way forward. Ironically, it turns out to be quite a wise and touching bildungsroman.

It’s a funnier film than I expected, with a satirical approach to Hollywood filmmaking that no doubt reflects Schoenbrun’s own insider experiences, including ludicrous Zoom calls with multiple producers.

It’s a depressing, zombie-like film, up and moving when it should be long since dead in its grave. May The End of Oak Street be the end of film nostalgia for Steven Spielberg’s film nostalgia.

The best thing about Spider-Man: Brand New Day is that it’s not trying to be anything more than gleeful fun, packing high-energy action, frequent laughs, and plenty of emotive drama into a polished entertainment package.

Where I see bewildering choices in adaptation, so many examples of ineptness in filmmaking, such an absolute inability to empathize with and then convey emotion or visceral effects, others laud [Christopher Nolan’s] genius at everything.

...Young Washington is an earnest but dull and often ludicrous account of Washington’s ambitious early manhood that has the quality of many a stodgy “after-school special.”

Toy Story 5 is a less risky, more sentimental sequel, though by putting Jessie the cowgirl at the center of the story, it’s really pushing the masochistic devotion of toys to the utmost.

Disclosure Day, for much of its extensive running time of 145 minutes, is one long chase movie. And I like chase movies a lot, so I enjoyed much of the film, though it palls a bit toward the end...
