François Ozon has made, in the main, a faithful five-star adaption of Camus’ seminal existential novella. His monochrome film has nailed the anomie of its central character and the blinding, hot sun.

The President’s Cake has details/scenes specific to this wartime period and unfortunately lacks the universality of Panahi’s similar childhood-quest The White Balloon, but it’s still worth seeing.

Late Shift is full of building tension as the shift wears on and you feel something awful is going to happen, partly due to the atmospheric music soundtrack...the everyday details of hospital nursing and the patients are really gripping, never boring.
